What’s happening at My Obsession Designs

I will be attending The Upper Market at Upper Coomera on Sunday 3rd April.  This will be my first market, so I am quite excited about going!  I have been very busy sewing over the past month or so to have some great products available on the day.  There will be Swimming Back Packs, Tote Bags of all sizes, Nappy Pouches (both large and small) as well as some Nappy Bags and Green Gift Bag packs.  I also have a few new items to show you on the day as well.  If you live in Brisbane or the Gold Coast I would love to see you there.  Goodie Bags will be given to the first 200 guests and in there you will find a product voucher from me valid on the day and for a week following for any orders placed through my Facebook page – My Obsession.  Make sure you stop by to say Hi!
After Sunday’s market I will be holding an online Market Night through my Facebook page for any product that did not sell at The Upper Market.  This album will be open for 48 hours only, from 8pm on Thursday 7th April (Qld time) and then I will be closing off as I start to prepare for my next market in May – details will be provided within the next month.
We are so close to reaching 700 likers on my Facebook page – if we can reach this before my online Market Night I will sort out some fun and games for you all, with a few prizes too!
Custom orders will open again in April for a limited time.  Keep an eye out for an announcement regarding this.
Over the coming weeks I will be working on some new products.  I have a bunch of ideas floating around my head.  I can’t wait to get them out and show you what else I have created!  Make sure you watch this space….
Oz Handmade is running an auction for the Good Friday Appeal – a great charity that raises funds for The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.  I will be donating an item to this wonderful cause.  The auction commences on 14th April and runs until 18th April at http://www.ozhandmade.com.au/.  Please show your support for this wonderful charity and pick yourself up something beautiful and handmade.
On a personal note, as many of you may know, I am currently pregnant with my 4th child.  We are now 18 weeks out from delivery, which I am sure will be here in the blink of an eye.  Over the coming months I will be working out what time I will be taking off from My Obsession Designs after the birth.  I will still be around, but production may be a bit low for a few months from the beginning of August.  If you have any requirements for Birthday Party Bags or anything else from August – November, let me know ASAP so that I can have them made for you before I take a break!
Thank you all for your support over the past 6 months or so.  It has been a pleasure to do business with many of you and I look forward to bringing you quality handmade items in the future.

Warm Regards
Tracey

Easter Craft Tutorial

Hi there,  this is Sarah from Skip Chasey. I love all things craft and cooking (luckily my other job before having my little girl was a High school Home Ec Teacher).  I spent 16 months overseas in Chile and whilst there crafted often, I needed something to take my mind off being homesick. Last Easter I came up with this little tutorial of twine wrapped eggs. They look so cute in a glass bowl in the centre of a table.  Go check out my tutorial and have a go yourself. All you need is twine, hot glue and either raw eggs that have the insides blown and cleaned or even Styrofoam eggs (lots in the stores at the moment).  They do not take long to make but they look so cute. – I am going to attempt to make them with coloured raffia and the Styrofoam eggs soon.

Monthly Challenge!

Each month 'The Sisters' have a challenge to create something to a set theme. January was make something for yourself, February make something with spots and March is an Easter theme. (Yes I will try to post the January and February photos too!).

Just thought I would share some of our creations so far.

From Shan at missy melly Two gorgeous bunnys for her girls. Pattern is her own design.

Nicole from Relax-a-bag designed this tiny little softie!

Sarah from Skip Chasey used a tutorial by Amy Gunson of Badskirt for Sew, Mama, Sew.

Shelli from Shelli Morse Design has started this cute little shirt. mmmm keep an eye on her page, maybe she will list some soon?

Finally I made a little shirt and skirt set (will be listed for sale in my market night 1 April!!) and loved it so much, I'll make one for my little princess too.

Hope you have enjoyed our 'Easter' challenge. Hopefully more to come in the next couple of weeks. What do you think?

The Sewing Sisterhood Charity Auction

The Sewing Sisterhood is an amazingly, talented group of women on Facebook. We sew, craft, bake, laugh and occasionally cry. The devastating floods and cyclone in Queensland left us wondering what we could do. Of course, create was the solution. Make something we know people would love and hopefully make some much needed money for the relief.
Tonight at 9pm (AESDT) these gorgeous dolls will be up for auction until Thursday 9pm. Check them out now at Oz Handmade

Dolls have been kindly made and donated by:

Jane - Lil Pip
Nat - Patooties Boutique
Jodie - Zahley Rose
Bernie - Tea for Evie
Leigh - Minkie Baby/Kat & Bee

Sabrina - Crambster Creations
Holly - Puppy Dog Tails
Suse - By Suse Hocking
Nicole - Relax a bag
Gem - Oz Handmade
Ange - Perigren Creations
Bel - Little Sew and Sews

I'm sure you will agree these dolls are rather special. Spread the word, dig deep and lets make a difference!

The ladies involved in making these
dolls would like to thank Katrina from Lil-Miss-Dolls for making her pattern available to use for this wonderful cause.

Happy bidding

Highlighting the "Maker of the week"

We thought we would show you the faces behind the names. Enjoy our updates on who we are!

Sabrina from Crambster Creations

Tell us a little about yourself?

I am married to a wonderful and patient man, and have a beautiful daughter who keeps us on our toes. I used to be a highschool home ec, hospitality and history teacher, which i loved. To inspire students to reach their potential is the best job in the world second only to being a mum myself.

Other than sewing, what do you do?
Besides sewing I love cooking and organising functions. I am also an avid scrapbooker, I love preserving the memories for my children to see.
Where do you get your inspiration?
My inspiration to start sewing kids clothes was my nephew, I started making clothes for him as my sister is a big fan of anything handmade. The more I searched for cool funky fabrics the more my pile of fabric grew :) Still grows but I love sourcing great fabric.

What does sewing, crafting and handmade mean to you?
I love seeing how the handmade community is growing and the support from others I receive. I love drawing inspiration from others who sew and craft and often are in awe of others creativity. I love the fact that a group of women can be given the same task and yet all produce a beautiful yet differing handmade product.

Who is your favourite fabric or pattern designer?
I am totally in love with and addicted to Michael Miller.

Who has been your greatest influence?
My greatest influence is my Dad and Kylie, they are very creative people and have taught me how to turn any negative experiences into a positive one. The support of my family has been invaluable.

Where would you like to be in five years?
Have grown my business big enough to do weekly markets, and being the best mum I can be to my children.

What handmade posession do you love most?
I don't keep most of my handmade things, but my favourite two handmade things are the Mae Bridal doll (pattern by Bit of Whimsy Dolls) I made for my sisters wedding and my daughters Boobooks (see Lil Pip) of which she has three cause I think they are super dooper cute.
