Sakurako is the creative outlet of Leigh, a busy stay at home mum to two small boys with a baby on the way shortly. Leigh enjoys making beautiful modern quilts, especially baby, toddler and child size quilts and accessories.
For the Spring Showcase, Leigh has made a cradle size quilt using the now out of print "Hushabye" line of quilting cotton by Tula Pink for Moda, and a matching bunny soft toy. Measuring approx 83 x 90cm, the quilt will fit a cradle or bassinet, can be used in a pram or as a floor mat for tummy time/floor play. The top is 100% quilters cotton, featuring a bunny print damask and a butterfly lace print. It is quilted to 100% cotton batting using quality Gutterman thread and is backed with a cream fleece featuring embroidered brown bunnies. It is bound by hand with a co-ordinating brown solid.
The matching bunny soft toy measures approx 33cm tall from top of ears to feet and is made from ultra-soft pale pink minky fleece. It has co-ordinating brown cotton print ears and a solid brown bow. It also has a fluffy white pompom tail and the facial features have been embroidered by hand using quality Perle cotton.
Leigh selected the bunny-print damask and embroidered fleece to represent the spring themes of new life, baby bunnies and new babies. All Sakurako quilts are one of a kind items and will not be repeated. The Hushabye Girl Cradle Quilt & Bunny Softie set is $100 plus $15 tracked postage. There is a co-ordinating boy quilt and taggy toy currently available on the Sakurako Facebook page.
At this time Leigh does not take custom orders - quilts are made ad hoc depending on what inspires Leigh at the time. However keep an eye out on the Sakurako Facebook page as next year there will likely be semi-custom slots available for purchase, where customers can liaise directly with Leigh to achieve the perfect quilt.
